Question

Can someone please explain the difference between memoir and autobiography? Also, can memoir be written in the 3rd person and still be memoir? Thanks! Martha

It's a fuzzy line. Memoir can be written in any person you want. Autobiography is generally considered more fact-based than feeling-based. In autobiography you attempt to chronology major and minor events in a person's life. It's somewhat journalistic. Memoir can cover a few months or years or a lifetime -- the timespan is variable. It can cover one major event or a few, or many, and may delve more into the emotional aspect of these events.
